Constructors’ championship explained
The constructors’ championship runs alongside the drivers’ series and the teams score points in the same way. In each of the 17 races the top eight places score points in a descending 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 order. To compete in F1 a team must enter two cars – with identical livery – and both are eligible for points in any one race.
The constructors’ championship was introduced in 1958 and over the years it has grown in prestige, to the extent where some teams value it as highly as the drivers’ title.
